About Astristech

Primary designer Jim Morvay has 16 years of technical drawing experience combined with a lifelong following of the Star Trek genre of Sci-Fi. The constant fascination with the design aspect of the films and TV shows spawned the desire to form the design business with respect to creating high quality blueprints of Star Trek starships. The mindset to it all is to provide as much information as possible when it comes to design and function, which seems to be lacking with a lot of current blueprint sets of ships. In this age of 3D, it is the philosophy of Astristech to provide the observer with a "complete" picture while not having to resort to further rendering and what some would call "eye candy". Although beautiful as it may be to produce a 3D model, the interiors and arrangement of elements can be detailed just as well in a 2D environment, just as it's been for many years.
So after posting a revised and colored version of the Ambassador Refit plan, I am left standing at a fork in the road and I would love to get some opinions from the masses.  I have taken up the duty of finishing what I intended to do months ago with regard to the Ambassador, but after colorizing the dorsal plan, I relaized just how much work is involved.  Since I work in CADD all the time to produce plans, the methods for output is a bit of trickery, meaning that I render the views in a way that they come out smooth and clearer at high resolution, instead of the normal output to printers, so in essence, there aren't any "jaggies".  Anywho, after a render is completed (all 1.2gb of it), I export the image to Photoshop for the coloring, but it's a lot of coloring.  I cannot create the colored shapes in CADD as they will not render in color the way I want.  With that said, there is a LOT of time taken to color and while I had requested input from a friend about it, he indicated that he liked the old colored versions I once did (the blue background with white linework), which I am still toying with the idea again, but I also like the plain white background with black linework.

Now, i ask you all, what do you think looks better?  If anyone has any further input, please feel free to post.

Well, what's to say. I have a passion for art, in all of it's forms but my skills draw me more towards the technical side of it all. My interests from a creative standpoint are derived from my geeky Star Trek days and with the advent of technology, it has made it even easier for me to express my passions in a more creative way. Aside from creating drawings, I love flying. Although I am not a certified pilot (not yet, at least), I fly occasionally through flight sim and with that I can take the occasional snap and clean it up nicely for display in my portfolio. One day I'll get into the pilot's seat, but I'm in no hurry. :)
